Canon specifies that the colour FINE cartridge goes in the left slot and the black FINE cartridge goes in the right slot on the TR4700 series.

Canon's TR4700 series instructions say to turn the printer on, open the front cover, open the paper output tray and paper output cover, then wait for the cartridge holder to move into the replacement position before removing the cartridge.

Canon states that on Windows the TR4700 series can temporarily print using whichever FINE cartridge still has ink. Both cartridges must remain installed in the printer, and Canon recommends replacing an empty cartridge promptly.
